Cathedral

2008.05.11
(please enlarge horizontal shots)

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo, in the evening light. The cathedral was built in the late 19thC by Italian craftsmen who were brought to Australia for this purpose. This evening I mistimed my arrival and was about 20 minutes too late, with the last of the sunlight about to disappear—hence I was only able to take a few rushed shots. The interior is quite beautiful also; I will return another day to take some shots inside. (These were taken on the new Sony A700)

rolpa Impressive building. Some nice angles and attractive lighting here with the extra reach of the wide angle effectively brought into play in a few shots. #2, #3 and #6 are my favourites.

meiling Magnificent!! Love the evening sunlight on the walls. Great angles, too. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your Sunday.

carmitage # 4 could be Geneva's cathedral, it always surprises me to see architectures round the world and compare.
Only the light is not as smooth.

redarrow Whether you arrived too late is a matter of conjecture - these are more very pleasing results from the Sony.

kimauman I think that 2 & 4 are my favorite angles. I cannot wait to see this inside. Thanks for posting these.

kangshung Wonderful shots of the cathedral Harry - love #5! What lens were you using - it's definitely quite a wide angled one?
kangshung · 2008-05-12: 06:15
SorinM Maybe is due to the dim evening light... but these shots have a certain hidden mystery it would not have otherwise (my opinion). It seems your new A700 is doing a good job!

Peche Great results with the new camera, though we all know that it's the photographer that makes the shot, not the machinery :)
I really really like the composition and light in #2 and #5 - just striking. I have been past this particular cathedral when in Bendigo for work, and always wondered what it would be like to take some time out to photograph it...
Thank you for sharing :)

Milaa Dicen "que el tiempo de dios es el tiempo perfecto", y fue perfecto el momento en que usted llego, el sol le da un buen gusto a la catedral. La imagenes y colores quedaron fabulosas..... Felicidades

sunshineand you got some very personal and wonderful angles...and the sunlight is warm and lovely.

LastFrontier You arrived too late, you say? Not so, say I. I really like the warm lighting just on the upper spire (my cathedral vocabulary is not stellar) and I admire the angles you chose. Hmm. This reads very similarly to sunshineand above, among other comments. Ah, well. Redundancy of vital parts in the aerospace field offers safety; here it connotes appreciation.

vollenda I'd have to agree with the others. This "last light" from the golden hour colored the church beautifully. #1 and #3 are my favorites.

Jannie I think you did great with the light! I was thinking as I scrolled throught them "wow, the light is awesome!!" Great job!!
