Dixie and I decided to make our trip to the reception into a road trip and headed up to the Apostle Islands in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
We were headed up Highway 16 when we spotted this bear running across the field next to us.

Dixie had never seen a bear in the wild, so she was thrilled beyond believe. The bear came out and onto the road right in front of us.
My guess is that it was a big male on the move. It looked to be around 350 lbs or better. Amazing they can move so fast!

Once in Bayfield we headed out to Madeline Island and checked it out. As we walked around, Dixie saw this monarch on some lilacs.

We walked a small part of island, mostly the downtown stores and shore. But I think the next time we'll rent scooters and drive around the island to see more of what the island has to offer.
