While in Cuba we visited an ostrich farm. They're beautiful birds but difficult to photograph (since they're always moving - they can run up to 65-75km/h). They are the largest species of birds, and consequently lay the largest eggs. They were very soft to touch (like a feather duster, lol) but the males can be aggressive so we only patted the females.
oh, and another interesting fact that I learned....Ostriches don't actually hide their heads in the sand when they are scared. They stick their heads in the ground to look for little bugs to snack on! When they're scared they can flatten their bodies to the ground (I imagine that they must be still rather visible though ;)
