At the very entrance to the refuge just after the causeway there is a small parking area with an informational kiosk on the right. Leading to the south from this parking area is a dike with a dirt road that first follows the eastern shore of the lagoon and then turns to the east as it follows "Gator Creek" around for several miles until it eventually runs back into the main road .
