Absolutely beautiful series of the area and its people!! I'll bet you that even though your feet hurt, it joyrd your walk with these people "free" as people are and should be around the world - it is too bad that many nations don't celebrate or can't celbrate their freedom as what is posted here. This is a very inspiring post Jen!!

I love this set. With the explanation you gave of the day and the purpose and reason, the photos have such a strong atmosphere about them. These hold a lot of feeling meaning. I love that.

a heartfelt pilgrimage through beautiful country....what better way to celebrate? I think your ancestors were walking beside you....

I do think that too Carley :) I have been doing a couple of events with some friends for their memory. In Paris it's on the 23rd that people from Guadeloupe and Martinique celebrate their memory. This has helped lots of people sharing the same history to find some kind of peace. We have been ignoring and forgetting too long... When you don't know about your past you're just a leaf that any wind can blow away.

I am moved by both your photos and words. It's important to remember—only the retelling of stories reminds each of us about the horrors we perpetrate on others. And perhaps the present generation and future generations will stop the repetitions. I also agree with your last line.

what year was that? (i'll google.) in my state, slavery's sin still reverberates through our lives subtley. it defines us less with each year, but we're not yet rid of the stain.
