SilkeHoltmann It is unbelievable & unthinkable in germans civilization!
But what counts more? The people on the photo look so happy! Are we Germans this also?
I don`t know...

JacquesR Beau moment de convivialité à la mode Africaine.
Personnellement j'ai un souvenir inoubliable des "maquis" de Abidjan. Malheureusement aucune photo...

carmitage Sharing is what counts.

I cherish these moments during my trips where I could just sit on the floor, by the side of warm welcoming friends, and dipp my fingers in the only plate of the house, ending up by a good belch to show my appreciation !

This picture says it all. Wonderful warm picture.

jendayee I know it can be strange to many, I have to confess that the first time I had to share food that way, coming with my french education..., it was a little embarrassing. But when it comes to do it with hands, everyone is getting theirs clean and there is a way of doing it without licking them and keep the food "clean". In Martinique, we also have a meal called "trempage", great taste, spread over the table on a clean banana leaf. Everyone is all around the table, standing and eating. They generally remind you that your hands have to be clean before sharing. Everyone takes its area and respect the other by eating with art ! :)) Those who don't want to do it that way, can use a spoon or a plate, but generally the others laugh at them !

photopoet There's a wonderful communal feeling about this photo—and I imagine eating by sharing creates a feeling of warmth between people.

Carley I have eaten meals shared like this with friends from Eritrea....I'll have to admit that they did it with a great deal more finesse and grace than I did! Anyway, the sharing was wonderful, and this sharing looks like that too!
Carley · 2007-06-15: 19:47

Mabi938 Traditions et coutumes. Merci de nous faire partager ces coutumes qui nous ressemblent et dont nous n'avons que peu de relations.
Mabi938 · 2007-06-15: 22:42
emmetan nice colours... and great expression from each of them... the Malays in Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore do the same... that's their traditional way of eating in fact... yes... it's not easy... need the skills so that your fingers don't end up with a mess...
emmetan · 2007-06-16: 00:49
ajoeh Great capture of expression.
