Crossing the river Maroni...

2007.08.29
On the left the bus with our luggage and equipment, in the center the two pirogues we were renting. I'll take the one on the right...

I was a bit worried when I saw them putting all the big boxes in it... they told me it could hold it...

That one would have been too small... :))

Shoes off and bend your head to get in...

We make the balance on the back.... :))

A forgotten one...

I don't think they know about blue waters.... (in fact it's soil, not dirt giving it that tone)

Bend again... :))

The traditional one....

You might have missed the posts about Suriname... 3 from here

We had to go to St Larent du Maroni, on the other side. That's French Guyana and we were leaving Suriname. After two hours and a half of gone bad road (I should say path) yelling at the driver to slow down a bit for the sake of our backbones... we reached the border. We had the choice between the ferry with lots of big jeeps or so, or rent two pirogues... We chose the second wich was more fun...

On the previous crossing we did, a few years ago, the were not covered. Now most of them are, to protect from the sun or rain, but they are less comfortable to my opinion...

It does not last long but as we had lots of luggage and equipment, we could not move too much to keep the balance ok...

You're on board ? we go !

OC110481 Remind me of when we was crossing to some small island in south of Thailand. It is always make me exciting and scare, because of we are grow up far from the ocean and river, rare chance to swim.

I look at those photos and really feel that way again.:)
My fav are 5,6,7 and the last one. Really enjoy to see those place where you been

CatsEyes Oh my God! Attends un peu. Je n'en reviens pas. L'equipement dans les pirogues, au top! Ca c'est le folklore guyanais. Merci Jen, fantastique experience.

giebien Bardzo ciekawe i interesujące miejsce, chciałbym kiedyś być na takiej szerokiej, zamulonej rzece. Poznać obce obyczaje, zasmakować tamtejszych trunków i strawy. A może to mit i za plecami jest supermarket z polskim browarem i Polką w roli menadżera stoiska z alkoholem wysoko procentowym. Świat jest tak mały, że wszystko jest możliwe.

cavist I do like particularly #6, 7.
