Korean Friendship Bell - San Pedro, CA

2008.05.01

I asked my dad about these - he's not 100% sure and he wasn't exactly sure how to translate what was written on them, but basically it is supposed to represent a male and female deity and what is written on them is something like a great man, a great woman. My dad heard that at one time every village had these two figures at the entrance. They are for protection or something to that nature.

the bell

one of the cleaner sides of the pavillion

kind of a creepy looking thing at the bottom of the stairs. I think the smile it has is kind of scary.

I don't think it fell off, I think someone threw something at it.

some nice details. I hope they will do some restoration and cleaning on this pavillion - it's really dirty and a lot of the paint has faded.

Today's rehearsal was at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, where a lot of our performances will be. I decided to get there a little early so I could take pictures.

I went to the Korean Friendship Bell, which is on a hill overlooking Point Fermin Park. There is a really awesome view from this place. Unfortunately it is usually clouded by smog. Hopefully one of these days when I'm down here again it will actually be clear - supposedly you can see Catalina Island from there.

If you want more info on the bell you can go to the wikipedia page. Please click here.

Sorry for rant yesterday - I'm ok, really. It's just difficult for me to get over this bad breakup/betrayal and I have my good and bad days. I am seeing someone about it but they can't really offer me much help except telling me to keep myself busy and live in the present. I know that - but it is also the most difficult thing for me to do right now.
