San Pedro, CA - ports of call

2008.05.04
the sign on the boat said: Preserve Fireboat 2 - "The Ralph J. Scott"

I can't believe how HUGE these things are!! Look at that teeny boat in comparison!

i'm guessing the white building on there is the control booth or something? it would be fun to watch one in action.

I wonder how many stories high that thing is

an old boat behind the maritime museum.

i guess something can survive in the polluted water

lots of this stuff everywhere

i thought it was a cute boat

there's a restaurant to the left and the seagull was hanging around hoping for some food

I also can't get over how enormous cruise ships can get, and i think this one isn't even one of the largest out there

I think that's the name of the place I was at yesterday. I will probably have a lot of posts about San Pedro because this is where I am going to be for most of the time for the next few weeks.

I had an hour break during rehearsal, and not really being able to go out with everyone else and eat, I decided to walk around and see what I could take a picture of. After looking it up it seems that there is a "ports o'call village" in the same area that I was at so I will have to walk a little further and find that, maybe there will be something to take a picture of. There is also the maritime museum and an aquarium that I hope to get around to visiting.

bchat I know this place! I've taken a couple of cruises from San Pedro. Amazing that you found life there (6 &9), not counting the cranky cruisers! Nice shot of the starfish.

dhulsmeyer 1 & 5 are amazing. and those cranes are definitely massive. i think it would be cool, albeit stressful, to operate one =)

oldbabe That starfish is really cool! And the shot with the contrast of size between ships is fascinating. Had you not taken that one I wouldn't have realized the massive size.

And why didn't you join the others for lunch? ;-(
