Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve

2008.05.26
It saw something to eat in the water (tern)

This one liked to stand as still as a statue until its eye caught something edible in the water (great egret)

This one preferred stirring up the dirt with its feet to see what it could find (snowy egret)

This one liked to skim the water with its beak...that's what it looked like it was doing, anyway. (black skimmer)

they have a fenced-off nesting area at the reserve. (tern of some kind)

Unfortunately this shot is blurry!!! It could have been really cool, too. : ( (black-necked stilt)

The store was closed and I had no rehearsal today. I met with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while and had lunch and then I went to find a place to take pictures. I got out of lunch kind of late so most of the places I wanted to go to were closed. My other friend and I ended up going to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.

There weren't too many birds around. There were a ton of photographers, though, patiently waiting with their super high power zoom lenses. : ) The birds that were there seem to be accustomed to people being around. There were some that would perch on the bridge railing just inches away from me and not even flinch when I turned to take a picture of them. They weren't even frightened by the sound of the shutter.

Update - Many thanks to my awesome and crazy smart national park ranger/one-time bird researcher friend for naming these birds for me!!

leocheung Nice captures. I especially #2 for for color and perspective.
Birds shooting needs a lot of patience which I don't have.
You did a great job indeed.
