Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum II

2008.04.28

To enter the mausoleum you are directed very specifically along a designated route, ensuring that the main street outside is relatively free of pedestrians and certainly free of traffic.
Coming out of the mausoleum's back door, to get back to the entrance (and your stored baggage) I think I took a wrong turn and ended up having to walk along this empty avenue. Still no-one told me off, but rather just looked at me suspiciously and escorted me back. It gave me a chance to get a good shot of the building itself in all its austere glory. It's a stark contrast to the majority of the buildings in Hanoi and is definitely more in keeping with its Communist heritage rather than colonial and this photograph looks suitably solemn.
