beautiful is right! glad you got to see a woodpecker! the smaller Downy Woodpeckers like the tree out front of my place in chicago - only the poor things always fly into the windows and knock themselves out :-(

Beautiful, beautiful! I saw a woodpecker in the Catskill Mountains, New York, once. One's first woodpecker (for an Australian), is indeed an exciting event.
