Mary and I have always been "dog" people, and have always had dogs,
"Bruno", "Boots", "Beeza", "Miss" and "Saito". We have loved our dogs, and treated them as family, just like our sons. One thing of course, our sons, have grown up and gone their own ways, now with there own families. Our dogs, have been with us,,,,,,until their end.
The last 2 dogs we have cared for, remain close to our hearts.
"Miss" (short for Mischief), we had for about 14 years since a 4 week old pup, a Bull Terrier - Rottweiler cross, and she did get cross on ocassion.
"Saito" we had for 16 years, a "Sydney Silkie", I found as a stray. Some cruel person had beaten and dumped her, in fox country. She was so brave and tough, to have lasted as long as she did, before I brought her home, weighing 1.5kg, just skin and bones and fleas.
Miss, our big dog, accepted her and did look after her (so long as nobody was watching). Miss didn't share anything, particularly her bed, and in 1 photo, I did capture that moment. Big tough Miss, (would eat or kill any threat to us) sharing her bed in the sun, with little Saito.
Saito (now gone, old age and blind, from cataracts) still has a deep spot in my heart, and brings tears to my eyes (like now) when I think of her.
Saito, went on holidays with us in our caravan, and loved every minute (lest you leave her in the car).
Such a dear little dog with a face that everyone loved, cannot ever be replaced :(

You can really see Saito's character in these photos. (To a lesser extent Miss's) Dogs are such optimists and return many times over the love and affection we give them. They can teach us a lot!
