Interesting Spider

While watering our garden (with waste water from washing machine), my wife noticed this unusual spider, making a web. She called me over to look at it, and I grabbed my camera, took several pics of this spider. I have not seen one of these spiders before. It is about 40mm long. Anyone got ideas as to what this spider may be ??

Thanks to our friend Maxine, and the link she gave to Australian Spiders, I am fairly sure it is a St.Andrew's Cross spider. Today I took some other pics, and the web is growing into the St.Andrew's Cross. I suppose that's where the spider gets its name

I saw one like that in my garden. Not sure what it is, but here is a website to help: Australian spiders. Perhaps it is a type of St Andrew's Cross, not sure.

Definitely a St Andrews. Beautiful, aren't they. But happy not to walk through their web and find one pasted to your face.
There's a hilarious you-tube video about spiders on drugs. Don't have the link handy, sorry.
