Yes, I like the faint shadow too. It's really hard to photograph the moon. One day I'll get a bigarsed lens and give it another try. If I recall, you have a good compact (non-SLR), so the following might work for you. Please forgive me rambling on for a bit:... It's best to put it into Manual mode, and set aperture & time yourself. On auto, it will try to average the brightness for the whole scene, making the moon too bright. During the eclipse last August I had the aperture on f28 and 1/4 second. Maybe f11, and a shorter shutter speed would've worked better, but it's very hard to focus on the moon in the dark.
