P365_118 Penrhyn Castle gatehouse
This is a view of the gatehouse and the overview of the castle. Its a structure that I want to go back to see the main house itself and shoot some sharp perspectives.
Nineteenth Century neo-Norman castle located outside of Bangor and close to the Menai Straits.
It was funded by the vast fortunes built from the profits of Welsh slate, Jamaican sugar and the West Indian slave trade.
Owned by The National Trust it is full of elaborate carvings, plasterwork and an outstanding collection of paintings.
It also houses within the gorunds, an industrial railway museum, a model railway museum and a superb dolls' museum.
It has around 60 acres of grounds include parkland, an exotic tree and shrub collection as well as a Victorian walled garden.
Certainly worth a visit.
