Wenshu Monastery is a famous Buddhist temple in China, and is one of the four major temples of Zen Buddhism.
“Xin Xiang Temple” is the ancient name of Wenshu Monastery, which was founded during the Sui Dynasty (605 – 617). It was once destroyed in the war at the latter stage of Ming Dynasty. In the thirty-sixth year of the Qing Dynasty, however, under the rule of Emperor KangXi, a Buddhist monk named CiZhuo determined to reconstruct it. Because his moral integrity was widely respected and the spirit of Wenshu Buddha was carried with him, the authorities and citizens have donated some money to support him, and renamed it as “ Wenshu Monastery”. During the period of the Cultural Revolution, it was well protected. Now, the whole monastery covers nearly one hundred mu and possesses five major temples. In recent years, people have built more towers, pagodas and walk-ways. It is really a centre of Buddhism for international and domestic tourists.
Look at the #8, many people are looking inside to see those monks singing. I really wish that image could carry sound...It is forbidden to film inside, but you can already imagine how magnetic the monks are considering the big crowd. :)
