Approaching Storm. From the Archives (November 2008). Arizona.
Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200VR @32mm, ISO 100, polarizer, handheld, 1/640th second, F8.0. Converted to B&W in LR3 from the raw file |
Winter Storm Clouds. Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200VR @ 50mm, 1/15th second, F5.6, ISO 100, Handheld and braced on rocks, Converted to B&W in LR3 from raw file. Funny thing is I had TWO, not one, but TWO tripods with me at the time the above was taken. I had left them both, together with a backpack and camera bag sitting by some rocks about 50 yards away from me as I wondered around looking for an angle. The weather situation was chaning so rapidly I would have missed these heavy, dark, roiling clouds had I gone back to get the 'pod and then set it up to shoot.

That is exactly why I find using tripods so cumbersome.. and carrying them around is such a hassle, isn't it? I am beginning to suspect, by the way, that the best B&Ws come from converted color shots...why?
