Ferns in Black & White

Ferns in Black & White. Panasonic Lumix LX5, 1/30th second, F3.5, ISO 125.
This is one of my favorite from my trip to San Juan. As soon as I saw this lush tropical setting full of these ferns I KNEW this would make an outstanding BW conversion. Since this scene was in the gardens at the hotel I was staying at, I was able to return to this site several times waiting for the perfect light. There aren't too many times in nature when you can just keep going back. It's not to glarey (my word, just made it up) and not to dark either. This was shot on my last day there just after the sun had come up before it got too high in the sky and started to cast shadows. I think I'm going to have this one printed on metallic paper; the glow from the ferns will really pop on that type of material. I have a couple of different version of the BW conversion. I'll be happy to post them if anyone is interested.

beth0110 You were right about the b&w for this shot. I think it really highlights the patterns of the ferns.

JustmeG this is an exceptional photo...one which I've always wanted to do but have not achieved yet probably because of the lack of good lighting...which this beautiful photo definitely has!! Love the detail, the warmth and natural radiance the ferns give off Bravo!
