Retro Gear:
Minolta XE-7 35mm Film camera. Purchased on my birthday in 1978. I already had minolta gear so I added this body. And yes, that is scotch tape on the camera viewfinder. I dropped the camera several times, and on one of those drops the top of the viewfinder flew off and the prism popped out with all it's wires and stuff. I literally, and very gently stuffed it all back in, and taped it shut. That tape was put there in 1980 and it is still sticking and the camera meter still works perfectly! And yes, there is some serious "brassing" -- where the black finish has completely worn off. It's a well used, well worn camera. I remember on one trip I shot through this one body alone 90 rolls of Kodachrome 25, and Kodachrome 64 36 exposure rolls of film. Back in the day, Minolta and Leica were partners for a few years; Leica got the added benefit of a Japanese factory and it's technology, as well as the benefit of mass production, and Minolta learned from the Leica craftsmen. This body, and internals was used by Leica when they designed and built their R3 I believe it was called. Minolta 16mm F2.8 Rokkor FISHEYE lens. this baby I purchased in 1979 from a photog who was getting divorced and his wife was taking him for every cent he had. So he sold it to me for $100.00 so she wouldn't get her hands on it and it was like new when I got it. See where it says Y48? Those are built in filters. Yellow, Orange, skylight, and an 80b Blue. Pull back on the rim, and rotate. A very neat, and true fisheye lens. Minolta 28mm F2.8 A superb wide-angle. Minolta 58mm F1.4 This is a super lens, tack sharp Minolta 135mm F2.8 A super, superb telephoto lens. I alos have a Soligor 70-205mm telephoto but that lens is so soft I don't bother with it. All this gear I will carry in my ThinkTank Retrospective 20 (in Pinestone color) bag. It's a shoulder bag, or can be carried as a messenger bag. Normally, I have to pick and choose my digital gear to pack this bag. With this retro gear, everything fits, with room to spare! I'm taking TWO rolls of Fuji Provia 100F speed Transparency film, plus all my filters. I will also be taking my Infrared convered Canon G2 camera with a single memory card. This is going to be a very interesting trip for sure. Once I return, my film will be processed into slides, and burned as TIFF's onto CD's by NCPS in San Diego. They are the ONLY lab that I entrust to process and scan my medium format film when I do shoot in that format. |
