Busy Bee

2006.11.16

Went for a walk yesterday and saw these flowers with bees flying around. Looks gorgeous as background on a 17" screen. The 1/200 seems to be enough to freeze the wings.

Olympus e-500 with 35mm macro at ISO 400.
1/200s f16 exp.compensation -0.33. No flash (perish the thought!)

jjimson People: please enlarge it and see. The small size doesn't work for it.

Jorgen: Nice shot. When I saw the highlights on the petals, I thought for sec that it was a flash shot. Now that I know its natural light its even better.

jorgen You need luck to get the bee at the right place, but with practice you get lucky more often :) I have earlier photos of flying bees (the big ones the Mantis was eating in my very first photos here), but the photos are not that exiting in themselves.

Yanko It´s a very nice shot! I wouldn´t leave the bee at the center of the image, but that´s just a matter of taste. Excellent quality of light with amazing color and texture!

aggiechristine The textures are wonderful. It is amazing that every vein in the flower is highlighted. And the flowere looks so slick compared to the furry bee!

jorgen Nope, no flash, but plenty of sunshine up in the mountain. I only own the built-in flash and it would never have hit anywhere close to the flower at that distance.

fequalma The color of the flower caught my attention. The bee is nice too.
