Simple Pleasure of Life

2007.10.10

My favorite pastime as a child was reading. I would spend hours at the library sometimes just picking out books. My sister and I would check out about 25 each at a time and read them all in a week. I have quite an extensive children's book collection that I've built since I was in elementary school. Good thing I decided to become a teacher so someone else can enjoy them too! Some of my favorite authors were R.L. Stine (Goosebumps and Fear Street books--LOVED them! Have them all!), Louis Sachar (Sideways Stories From Wayside School), and Roald Dahl. A good picture book is always fun to look at too, especially a Dr. Seuss one. I can sit and read books in my collection for hours now. It brings back so many happy memories and is a little humorous too :D

What were your favorite books as a child?

*DISCLAIMER: NO, I do not keep these books scattered all over the floor (like the clothes in my closet!) as they appear in some photos! I'm in the process of trying to decide which to take to school and which to leave at home. I'm a little bit neater than that ;)

mybigbackyard I remember loving the "Little House" series and Little Women. I read a lot when I was younger, but now I mostly listen to books on CD as I drive.

vollenda Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden were my favorites. I was the same way when I was kid. Always getting into trouble because I'd be reading instead of doing my chores! I'm still the same. :) Thanks for the memories!

taifallos haha, great stuff!!! I totally know what you mean, I loved those wayside school books too.. =) By chance do you like children's gothic tales? There's this fantastic book by Philip Pullman called "Clockwork", it's about a hundred pages or so with some nice bw hand drawn pics and very imaginative. It's my favorite! Although having family that's so much older than me I remember being told all the Tokien stories when I was young. I think that covers it!

kware It's funny, I collected children's books (mostly old Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys/Bobbsey Twins) and now that I have kids, I can't afford to do it anymore. However, the closet in my daughters' playroom is now their personal "library" full of books!
