Ubud, Bali - Day 01

2008.10.31
Our 1st Breakfast in Bali

A Cremation Ceremony - Balinese called it, Ngaben.

We were lucky enough to just happened to be at the right place at the right time to witness this ceremony which don't happened that often because apparently, its really costly.

The cremation ceremony's size and spectacle all depends on the importance of the deceased, and the money spend. So, the more important you are, the more grand it's going to be like this one. We heard the deceased was from the royal family.

While the poorer Balinese are buried first, and finally cremated in group cremations which is done probably once a year.

Balinese believe that the body needs to be burned to set the soul free from worldly ties, and to be reincarnated.

I wondered if he is the good guy or the bad one? Hmmm!
