Dallas Part Two: Dallas Museum of Art

2008.05.18
Wonderful, colorful, little work by a painter that I like. I am use to his wild stuff so this was a nice diversion.

Wassily Kandinsky
House in Murnau, 1908

I love the despair of this little Greek statue. We know that being a woman is hard! Even back then...honey I have a headache!

I almost didn't post this one because it was so blurry. But I kind of like the movement and shimmer. This is a block print by Drurer.

Exquisite.

Figure of a young man from a funerary relief
Greek, Attic, c. 330 B.C.

For all of our technology, our cell phones, computers, fax machines...We have lost the ability to make 'art'--at least on this level. The ability to crack a single block of marble to release a being inside.

Think of everything she has seen so far.

Figure of a woman
Roman, 2nd century

This was exciting to see.

Piet Mondrian

Jackson Pollack. Closeup on a large work.

Portrait and a Dream 1953
Jackson Pollack

Jackson Pollack probably wore his big black boots and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth when he painted this one. I think his process was more interesting than the final result.

Cathedral1947
Jackson Pollack

I did a little Jackson Pollack on Jackson Pollack--the digital version.

Love these.

Georgia O'Keefe

My 'macro' of Georgia's work.

I was surprised. I thought these were stems that she painted. They are actually tree trucks in snow.

While my husband and son went to lunch at a sport's bar (how boring!) they gratefully dropped me off at the Dallas Museum of Art. I decided not to make them suffer. I was in heaven.
The highlight of the trip were the last paintings by Georgia O'Keefe. I decided to do close ups of them as I do flowers in real life. The second highlight of the day was the spinach-strawberry salad with goats cheese, pecans in a raspberry vinegrette....mmmhh. Now that was a work of art!

onepicaday You´re so right, Kim. Some weeks ago I had the chance to see some sculptures of Tilman Riemenschneider, one of the most famous wood sculptor (?) in den middle age in germany. It´s nearly incredibly to see such a statue, that a man actually can create something like this... I had the same thoughts like you had with the marble statue...

CJLata Great pictures Kim. I would comment on the headache thing, but we are too public....hahahahah.
