Herbs and a birthday wish

2009.11.08
My speariment and my oregano a few weeks ago.

Thanks to my wonderful parents, I now have a mortar and pestal to grind all of my herbs, both fresh and dried!

Beautiful cake! I wanted to put my finger SO BADLY in those flowers. Its my cake, right?

One candle, you betcha I blew it out! I better get my wish...

"So my wife likes to put bows on my head and take pictures of me... No one told me that was part of marriage.."

With my birthday always comes reflection...who I am, where I've come from, and how blessed I feel to be in the life that God has so chosen for me.

We are a mix of things we have inherited by genetics, and things that we just are. Unfortunately, I have not inherited my mother's ease with her green thumb. Rather, it seems I have a hot pink thumb instead of a green one. Regardless of my knack for killing plants, I somehow managed to keep most of my herbs alive this year and have now come to the point of being able to harvest my bounty, in preparation for the long winter ahead. And just when I think in the spring that I can't possibly consume anymore soups with dried herbs from my garden, the Lord will shine his face down upon us once again and I will have the fresh herbs to throw into salads. But for now, I prepare for the colder weather ahead and look forward to the many soups that await me.

Thank you God, for everything you have given me, and everything you have in store for my life. I am truly blessed.
