I find these interesting because it hints that the warmth of your character is able to bring out spontaneous smiles in your subjects, and perhaps an overlooked ability of the photographer is people skills. Not so much fun having a technically perfect shot of a frowning face or camera smiles although the former might be fun sometimes. I saw your comment in the previous post that you'd used the glow function. I forgot to mention something pointed out to me by another photoblog friend, namely the "unsharpen mask". Weird name, but it actually sharpens the image - if you had wanted that, but also has odd effects if you apply too much. Did you see a slight washing-out at the top of the first two? I think it is because of the strong light behind, even though you & your camera have correctly exposed for the foreground. Perhaps a more knowledgeable photoblogger can comment on that. Am I imagining it? Is it lens flare or something else. Would flash fill or a filter help? I'd be interested to know. Oh...and nice capture, thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I noticed the light at the top after I shot the pictures. I had already moved them around a couple of times to try to get enough light for them to show up and it just wasn't working. We started late in the afternoon on a whim. As for the smiles, I'm not opposed to sticking my finger up my nose to get smiles (it actually works just as well with adults as it does for kids) or telling them to say a favorite body part (works better for the guys - they don't say it, but they laugh). I work really hard on making people comfortable and not having it feel like some rigid studio session. Thanks for noticing! Did you ever shoot that wedding, btw?
