The lens comes in a big box, and includes a nice big pouch. Good padding inside the pouch too.

This is how the lens looks like with the hood reversed.
p/s: I have normal hands, by the way.... |
The lens with hood attached the right way. This lens is big. But then again, all lenses in this class is about this size range.
The hood is deep. Luckily Sigma gave me a center pinch style lens cap. Or else, I will be cursing them like nobody's business....
The tripod collar can be easily loosen / tighten
This lens features a AF/MF switch, which I find rather uselss because I already have 2 ways to switch AF/MF on the Sony A700 camera body. Now, I have another one on the lens.... I think a focus limiter switch will be more useful than this.
This is a D lens, hence the 8 pins contact at the rear of the lens. Also, do notice the screw coupling had effectively been blanked off, since this lens uses HSM motor and not the in camera AF motor for the auto-focusing duties.

Sample shot from this lens. Taken at Bu To Shi Chinese Temple here in Kota Kinabalu. Exif: 1/2500s, f3.2, ISO200, FL = 120mm.
100% crop of the above photo.
Some more sample shots. Check the bokeh on this baby!
Some more sample shots. Check out the details in the focussed area and the bokeh!
This shot was also taken with the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 II EX APO DG Macro HSM.
This is how the lens looks like, coupled to an A900 with battery grip. Simple awesome looking piece of machinery, don't you think? Unfortunately, I don't have the A900...... =_="

hello, may I know what 'Bokeh' you mentioned? Newbies in photography.
vidic · 2009-04-17: 12:00
Bokeh is a japanese word that means "blur". it is generally used to identify the blurred portion of a photo (the out of focus portion). How a particular lens render the pattern of the bokeh is important to a photographer. :D

thanks for your explanation. Hope can learn more from you.

Oh ya, may I knw when to use the Hood? Some hood are deep but some not? Any big different between both?
vidic · 2009-04-17: 15:12
vidic, I share whatever I know. :D anyway, I will usually use the hood, especially when I'm taking photos under the sun in bright daylight. the hood is used to cut off stray light that is not entering the lens straight (i.e. from an angle). these light can cause flaring issues where the photo will loose a lot of contrast. Generally, that is not a desirable effect.
