People Pictures

2006.12.31

[[Darnit, I did it again. Was halfway through a post and then accidentaloy closed the window, argh!]]

Ok, so, what I was saying was:

I need to get out and shoot [pictures of] people more. I need to go to, like, some outdoor events and stuff. I don't do that enough 'cause it's usually too hot here and I can't take the heat. But it's nice out now, so I need to try to get out more often to where people are. Also, I'm reluctant to "shoot" people too much in public, because nowadays people are so darned paranoid. Lots of stories of people getting mad when they think you are taking a photo of them.

The Flag And Girl photo was taken at the local annual Festival Of India in 2002 (I go every year). At that time I did not have a digital slr, I just had a Canon Elph S100 point-n-shoot, and an old film Canon AE-1 program. Flag And Girl was taken w/ the AE-1....

"Budding Photographer" was taken w/ the Canon D60 dslr.

One of the things that struck me as funny at this festival, is that every year, people line up for fantastic Indian Food, but the Indian children want no part of it. They order stacks and stacks of Papa John's Pizza just for the kids. The festival visitors and Indian adults all love the Indian food, but I guess the other kids are sick of it. :)

"Dancing" is also the D60.

Added: Google Maps:
Here is the field at the Aliance of the Arts where the festival is held every year. At the north of the field is a stage attached to the Arts building, where the people put on fashions shows of Indian clothing, perform Indian dance, etc.
