Clarence Leonidas "Leo" Fender founded Fender Electric Instrument Manufacturing Company in Fullerton, California in 1946. After revolutioning the world of musical instruments with guitars such as Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass he sold the company to CBS in 1965.
Then, in 1971 him, together with Forrest White and Tom Walker, founded Music Man. With this company he designed and produced, amongst the others, one of the first electric bass guitar with active electronics: the StingRay bass. On March 7,1984, Music Man was sold to Ernie Ball.
In the late 1970s Leo Fender also founded, together with George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt, another musical instrument company: G&L. It was here where he worked till the day he died, designing and experimenting new guitar concepts.
He died in 1991 from complications of Parkinson's disease.
