This is the original image.

In this image, I "removed" the distracting limb in the lower left corner and the house in the background, and the rakes in the sand trap.
|
Next, I lightened the sunlit areas on the grass and flag.
|
And finally, I darkened the background slightly to give more emphasis to the flag, golf green, and mist on the pond.
|
The use of layers in Photoshop Elements 8 can help to improve the image by removing distractions and improving exposure of selected areas in the photo.
