China's Terracotta Warriors

The Terracotta Warriors were discovered in 1974, by farmers digging a well near Xian in China. Excavation of the earth and timber vaults revealed thousands of life-size terracotta warriors in battle formation, a whole army which would accompany its emperor, Qin Sichuan, into immortality.
The first part of the Terracotta Army site to be discovered was named Vault One. In 1976, two other vaults were uncovered 20-25 meters from Vault One, and were named Vault Two and Vault Three. Called the Eighth Wonder of the World, they are among China’s biggest tourist draws. Now on June 13, Chinese archaeologists have begun the third dig of the Terracotta Warriors after a 24-year break.

What a great find. Are they human size? Love the horses too. The different hair styles and faces are really great. The clothing is pretty much the same for only small differences. I guess in those days you were the designer. As they say in the fashion world, "less is more."

It looks like they're hollow inside. How'd they do that? With a mold? But they look like they're carved out of stone.

Oh, I am so going to see this in person! :) Apparently each warrior is different - different faces - and the story behind finishing the army is quite dramatic (executed or poisoned workers etc.).

I'm probably the only person who has been disappointed by the warriors. Possibly because my expectations were too high before we got there.
