This is actually a very neat idea. Instead of chopping down the larger dying tree's near the downtown core here, they've been trimming the branches, leaving the trunks and letting artists carve into them making some very neat roadside art. This is a snippet from one of them.
Just had a 'DOH!' moment. I should do a quick theme posting with a bunch of these, stay tuned. Some of them are very cool indeed.
