Peace is a privilege

2007.06.05

with Tamer in Dahab 2004

I felt so lucky today... played with my son in the garden and thought about Tamer, my best friend in Egypt who is working at the moment in Sudan, Darfur with the UN as Field Security Coordination Officer. Just received an e-mail from him telling that on the first 1st day of his arrival one egyptian officer was killed after 3 hours from finishing dinner with him, his collegue was shot at the same day and a few days ago Tamer and some collegues were kidnapped... they were robed and left alone for more than 5 hours in the burning desert...
I hope he will be fine and I see him again...
Peace is a real privilege... and I am sooo lucky to have it!

davids Great shots and what can you say about the words - so true. So many people have sacrificed so much for the peaceful lives we take for granted in the west. You are correct - peace isn't a right it's a privilege we enjoy and shouldn't abuse.

Shamana Really great post, your photos are so evocative! There are many things we have to be grateful for and peace is one of the greatest - I hope your friend will be fine too.
