#2 Pikes Peak Highway: At the Top!

The Pikes Peak Cog Railway transports people from Manitou Springs to the summit and back several times a day.

The tourist souvenir gift shop in the Summit House has to be one of the highest in the world. Typical souvenir on the shelf below also with a look out the window to the north.

Looking down on Colorado Springs...

"America the Beautiful" plaque below. Katherine Lee Bates jotted down the first words to this well-loved song on the summit of the Peak in 1893. Later she remembered: "One day some of the other teachers and I decided to go on a trip to 14,000-foot Pikes Peak. We hired a prairie wagon. Near the top we had to leave the wagon and go the rest of the way on mules. I was very tired. But when I saw the view, I felt great joy. All the wonder of America seemed displayed there, with the sea-like expanse."

I've always wanted to go to the top!!! Looks like Colorado Springs has outgrown Dr. Quinn and family, lol. BEAUTIFUL shots, very creative finds; love the colors in #8 and the perspective of #6
