My eyes a-door-ed you.

What the weather is like this morning. Where it isn't puddled, it's ice.

Four years ago at a party, a friend noticed that my bathroom door was likely a paneled door covered in plywood. Two years later, I was bored and ripped the plywood off. This is what I found underneath. I was surprised to see that, despite being all battered and ugly, it had some of the same colors I use in my house now. The sage green is about the same as one of my exterior trim colors. The ochre was close to my bedroom wall color.

I left the plywood on the inside of the door, since I already had a mirror attached to it, and it's the only place in the house I can put a full length mirror.

Bleah. I forgot how much I hated my old kitchen floors.

I'd since painted it, keeping the original two-toned effect. The new paint crackled over the old paint. I could have stripped it down and refinished it proper, but I liked the rustic effect.

Ta-da! Stenciled.

Detail of the crackles.

More detail.

And a little more detail.

My house.... How can I put this nicely? My house seems to have been built from the scraps of other houses. Nothing is square. Redoing my kitchen and bathroom showed that the drywall was pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle. Under the siding, you can see the garage is made of old shipping crates, and I'm sure the house probably is, too.

Honestly, the place should have been condemned. It was a dump. But I saw past the mess and saw the woodwork, the hardwood floors, the charm of the sloped ceilings upstairs... the potential. With a lot of love, and a lot of hard work, my little house - a former mom-n-pop's corner store - is becoming a gem. At least to me, and that's all that really matters.

I bought stencils for my bathroom door right after Christmas, and have been meaning to work on it since. It's yucky weather, I have the day off, and I'm well enough to spend time on the outside of the bathroom for once, so today was the perfect day for it.

Beagles3 I am glad to see you feeling better! I really like the crackle effect on the light color of the door. It lends itself to the age of the door and an era gone by. The colors are nice and you did a great job on the stencil.

ncshutterbug Oh, and I meant to say - nice job on the water drops in the puddles! I've been planning to do a macro set on water drops, but haven't gotten around to setting things up to do it yet.
