Kirby Park

2008.03.14
"We're goin' for a car ride! We're goin' for a car ride!" If I can manage to back out of the driveway...

Kirby Park. I don't remember what the poles are for... if they're some kind of exercise thing (weave poles for people?!) or "art."

People feeding the geese.

Uh.... "wildlife?" These geese are more tame than most dogs I know.

Another view of a pavillion and people feeding geese.

Market Street Bridge, connecting Wilkes Barre to Kingston.

When I was little, I called it "The Eagle Bridge."

Beavis poses on the levee by the bridge.

Perhaps Beavis can get a job with the tourism committee.

Along the top of the levee is a paved walk, with lamp posts every thirty feet or so. Beavis had to "claim" each and every one of them.

But he was happier when we were in the field and I didn't make him walk right next to me.

"Weeeeeeeee!!!!"

One of the big willow trees in the park.

What a goober! The longer the tongue, the happier the dog.

All the "law breaking" geese feeders were gone, so I could move in and get some pictures.

Time for a swim.

She looks like she's talking.

"I'm not ready yet!"

More geese.

Beavis pouting because I wouldn't let him drink the water.

Guess that only applies to people, huh?

He has zero interest in the geese.

But he was happy to be out and about.

Lots of very well-fed squirrels in the park, too.

Back in the car, ready to go home.

Downtown Wilkes Barre, taken at a traffic light, through the windshield. Wouldn't you know it? The second I had the camera ready, my light changed green.

Our county courthouse, where Fritz and I got married. Another shot taken out the window at a stop light.

Right after work, I packed up Beavis and took him to Kirby Park, one of the areas larger parks on the river, where we spent about an hour walking around the pond, on the levee, and working a bit on Beav's manners.

Our Pekingese rescue's reunion is still four months away, but I want to get him used to behaving among distractions. He was too nervous at the last reunion to do any of his tricks (plus, I forgot his bag of treats in the car!) and I want him to be ready for this one.

So we worked on heel (reasonably well), sit (good), paw (really good), high five (needs work if there's distractions), and I even managed to get him to play dead. Once. We'll need more practice.

ncshutterbug Love this set, Lorina. I love seeing more of Wilkes Barre. I'm dying to go there and take pictures of the bridge and the courthouse and other stuff at night.
