A sign in my garden. I do remember planting the tulip, though. It was only Saturday.

October Daphne Stonecrop, one of the perennials I planted last year. I wouldn't have remembered what it was if I didn't keep the little label.

My first, and so far only, daffodil blooming this year.

Purple hyacinth. I love how they smell. It reminds me of Easter at my parents' house.

My forsythia.

After taking a few pictures, I said the magic words, "Do you wanna go for a walk?!" Any part of that sentence would bring him running. "Walk." "Do you wanna." Even the word "gopher" gets him excited.

A house a few blocks away with gorgeous tulips about to open.

The same place had a bunch of hyacinths in bloom.

A few houses closer to home had grape hyacinths. I have them, and the plants are growing, but they're not blooming. I suspect it's because a certain somebody (not to point fingers) pees on them every morning.

And three houses down, they have a yard full of daffodils.

What I grow best: weeds in the crack between the sidewalk and steps. But it is the only front yard I have. ;)

Closeup of a tulip.

Grace Ward Lithodora, one of the few new, non-clearance plants I got this spring. They're actually an amazing brilliant blue, but I can't seem to capture the exact color. Even other photos I've seen don't capture how deep the hue is.

'Nother tulip.

A pansy in a big flowerpot in my back yard.

Pink creeping phlox.

And light purple creeping phlox.

A faded pansy.

Pink hyacinth.

Beavis posing in front of the big flowerpot in my yard, with my forsythia in the background by the garage. The flowerpot is there to cover the "mystery dent" in the yard. It started as a slight depression years ago when I moved in. I tried filling it with dirt. It sunk deeper. So we took a 4x4 post and tapped on it. The hole ended up being about 8 inches wide, but 6 feet deep! We're guessing it was once the hole from an outhouse years and years and years ago. So, we did what any smart person would do. We put cinder blocks over it to keep us from stepping in it. ;) Since two big ugly blocks in the yard looked, well... ugly, I put a flower pot on top of them last year.

UPDATE: What I love about spring... These next five photos were taken this evening after work, and weren't blooming this morning.

Another one of the red tulips starting to bloom.

Little happy pansy. :)

And a little purple one. Pansies are one of my favorite flowers, but they don't really do too well in my yard. They're good in early spring and late fall, but not in the heat of summer.

The purple tulips are starting to open. But that looks more magenta than purple to me. I'm a color snob.

The gardening bug bit me bad last year, probably because I've painted every room in the house several times and need to expand my overwhelming urge to add color everywhere I can.

It started with windowboxes in the front, then hanging baskets, then finding clearance annuals at Lowes & Home Depot, then (JACKPOT!) clearance perennials towards the end of last summer. (Have I ever mentioned I'm cheap? I blame my Scottish great-grandfather for passing on the thrifty genes to me. I can't resist a bargain and loathe paying full price for anything.)

I don't even know what some of the plants were that I bought. They were past bloom, some didn't have identification on them. But... they were a dollar. Can't go wrong for a buck! So it'll be a nice surprise when they all start coming back this year.

Continuing my love affair with clearance racks, Lowes had bulbs half price last weekend, so I got a ton of tulips and a few hyacinths to go with the creeping phlox, pansies and forsythia I bought a few weeks ago (and at full price... I was desperate!!!)

So, here's how my garden is growing so far. And a little bit of other gardens I passed this morning while walking Beavis.

majikmonkee Great set! Very beautiful and creative! The sign in the first one made me laugh out loud, and the pooch in the last picture looks very protective of that plant!

LostAspen lol, the dollar garden! It turned out beautiful though. :-) Beauty is not about how much you spent, that's for sure.

ncshutterbug I love the big outhouse pot! It'd be fun to come up with different combinations to plant.

Love all of these photos. I love the hyacinths; maybe I'll plant some of those myself. They're such a pretty color.

Liselaime Beavis running is a sight to see. I'm going to live vicariously through your garden this summer--I can't plant mine, as we're selling our house next month and probably renting a crappy apartment for the next 6 years. And I had such lovely blue delphiniums...
