Pennsylvania at 55mph (and considerably less)

2008.04.21
The Susquehanna River, from the bridge on Rt. 309. I like the shadow of the clouds on the mountains.

A sign that made us laugh, especially because Fritz was wearing a Sex Pistols tshirt. (Nevermind the Bullocks?)

Big red barn. This brings back childhood memories of when my best friend and I took horseback riding lessons. We'd drive past this barn every week, and it became a landmark that we were close to the stables, and we'd start getting nervous about which horse we'd end up riding that day. We hoped it wasn't Miranda, a quarter horse, throroughbred mix, since she was fiesty and we'd both fallen off her already.

I'd love to have property like this, with a big old pond.

More farmlands and ponds.

We've never been to this restaurant, but always laughed at it's name. It's for sale now. I hope the new owners keep the same name.

Big hill, long road.

Same hill, but the light turned green and Fritz started moving, which make the camera go up. I wasn't trying to get a picture of the light. I just wanted more mountains than the previous image!

Taking Beavis for a walk, and loving all the trees in bloom.

Waiting for Mr. Pokeypants.

I saw the first violets blooming today. Sure, they're weeds, but they're pretty!

I think the white ones are an ornamental cherry tree.

Closeup.

I wish my street was this pretty.

Pink hyacinths and grape hyacinths.

Not quite sure what these are.

But they're beautiful!

A daffodil blooming in an empty lot.

Smaller than a crow, I think this might be a grackle. But I'm not sure. I love the rocks by the creek in the background.

At the end of the walk, we were both windblown, disheveled, tired and thirsty. But only one of us had a leaf stuck in our buttfur.

Gas prices be damned, we went for a ride yesterday. Over the river and through the woods, past farmlands and rolling hills. We stopped to give Fritz a chance to take some pictures (I'll upload his for him later to his photoblog) since he doesn't get a chance during the week. But most of my pictures, I took out through the windows while we were moving.

The rest of the pictures I took while walking Beavis later in the afternoon yesterday. My street has no tree lawn, but a few blocks over, the streets are lined with flowering trees. So beautiful!

debbyfaye They are all terrific, but I especially like number 14. While my allergies would hate it, I would love to live on that street. So very pretty.

urmysunshine I read a weed is only a plant you don't want- no matter what it is- so I don't count violets! That's my take on it anyway! Great set, my favorite is the cafe- awesome name!~ R

ncshutterbug Great set - I love seeing your neighborhood. That big red barn is great - such a classic scene. I love red barns.

LastFrontier You've taken some beautiful photos of spring in Pennsylvania! I particularly love the red barn and closeups of flowers. Lovely work!

Beagles3 Your spring has arrived a few weeks after ours. Most of the trees no longer have their blooms and are full of new leaves. I love the countryside photos. And of course our boy Beavis!
