The Swat Team

2008.05.09
The boys got a new toy today. The "Kitty Swat."

"Attack!"

Fergus, "Hey, Kitty Swat doesn't mean you punch me in the nose!"

"I'll punch you in the nose!"

Finally, appropriate swatting.

"Ta Da!"

This probably would have been seriously cute from the front.

Totally. Mesmerized.

I was going to buy them a hanging cat scratcher, but they were all $10 or more. I thought, "I could make one myself! I have wood. I have carpet scraps. I have rope."

If you think the same thing, don't. It's easier to just buy one. I have rope and gluegun burns on my hands.

And after all that, they use me as a scratching post instead.

Pippin climbing Mt. Mommy.

When they dance, they dance the Macarena.

They got a new bed today, too. Pippin's almost got the right idea.

But Fergus is still playful.

The kittens are up to about 2.5 pounds now! That's up a half a pound from just Sunday. They're growing like weeds.

I'm pretty sure they're older than I originally thought. I'd guess them to be about 9 weeks now. Which means only three more weeks until they can be reliably tested for feline leukemia. I don't know how the hell I'm going to keep them confined for three more weeks, though.

As sad as yesterday was at work, today was one of those, "So that's why I'm a vet tech" kinda days. First thing in the morning, we get a diabetic cat in with insulin shock, pretty much comatose and near death. A few hours of treatment (fluids, hand feeding, coaxing to eat, a little karo syrup & dextrose) and she's well enough to go home, with her blood glucose level and body temp back where they should be. It was amazing to watch this poor, sick kitty go from totally unresponsive to actually PURRING at one point. Until the syrup gave her diarrhea, and we had to give her liquid Endosorb (kinda like pepto for pets). But at that point, knowing where she was a few hour earlier, it was good to see her acting fiesty and grumpy. Just like a cat should.

debbyfaye I love how Fergus is cross eyed playing with the toys because he doesn't want to take his eyes off the prize. :)

They are so gorgeous, Lorina.

Thank you for all that you do in your job. I can't imagine how difficult it is to go in some days.

ncshutterbug Oh. My. God. I love these pictures so much! I want to sit in your bathroom and play with them. They're so adorable.

I can see lots of candidates for ICHC in the near future.

Beagles3 Wow, it seems like the two of them are having the time of their lives! Fergus and my Leila could really be twins. Same longer hair and color!

Leila has been using me as a scratching post for the past three days. She likes to climb up your back and sit on your head like a hat. She is a little porker too and I think has gained weight in just the few days wil us.

She is so fast and wild when she plays, I can't get a good picture. Champ has become her play buddy now that Tony went on his sleepover Saturday.
