Memorial Day

2008.05.26
Lots of houses had flags out today.

I walked Beavis down to the local Marine Corps League to take some pictures.

They have these plaques attached to flags for each war.

Vietnam.

Korea.

WWII.

I fully support our troops and I'm eternally grateful for all they do, but... maybe they need a proofreader? Especially if it's carved in stone!

Mural on the side of the building.

Kinda says it all, doesn't it?

I like the reflection in the marble.

Signs for the different regiments or battalions... I'm not sure which.

And now, fun day off pictures.

In my best Elmer Fudd voice, "Wabbit Twacks!"

I was amazed how close we got to these guys before they ran off. I was only on the other side of the track, so maybe 6 feet or so?

I painted the front door to match the back door this morning. Beavis wasn't happy about posing in front of it as we came home from our walk. He just wanted to go inside and get a drink.

We added some lattice and some little vinyl fencing by the garage. The lattice is to encourage my ivy to climb, instead of just winding around itself on the ground.

Pippin and Fergus. You'd think a long weekend actually meant something to them.

Beavis also takes his holiday weekend seriously.

Freshly mowed lawns and rolly-dogs? Not a good mix.

Pippin and Fergus, hours later. They don't look like trouble-makers, do they?

My Memorial Day, take two.

I had this post mostly done, when some sneaky little approximately 3 pound furball snuck behind my desk and stepped on the toggle switch to my computer's surge protector. That was just the most recent of their indescretions, after nearly killing my palm tree and fern yesterday, and today using the potted palm as a litter box, tipping over a quart of paint on my living room floor and area rug, and attempting to play with Gypsy's tail. She was not pleased. Yet somehow, I was the one to get scratched.

If my mom asks me one more time why I'm not having kids, I'll just have to point to Pippin and Fergus. If I'm having this much trouble with two kittens, how could I possibly deal with children?!

Liselaime #17 is criminally cute, and Beavis should have his own variety show in addition to a fan club.
