in harburg hafen on the banks of the southern branch of the elba river among the maritime repair shops there is a smaller building where the stranger passer by gets a warm welcome. baba, a young turkish worker, has a big smile on his face when he notices the camera and poses voluntarily for a picture at the open door of the shop

he invites inside and introduces me to his boss, a quiet middle-aged man speaking excellent english. they repair wheelchairs for hospitals, social homes, and doctor offices. a few people are chatting around a table in the middle of the large and spotlessly clean sunlit workroom

i do not have to ask him, baba proudly poses again holding a folded wheelchair. the boss explains, they are a non-profit repair shop employing disabled people

wonderful entry into your blog. a micro story, told with the respectful distance of the outside visitor. and yet you let us peek into their lives as if we'd shyly stand next to you in the entrance to this sweat shop. what strikes me is the pristine cleanness of the place - the boss either runs a tight ship here of this is how germans "work". but the crown of your entry is the portrait of baba which swipes me away with his grin, his crisp, round faced, slightly off symmetric friendliness. just GREAT :-) stormfish · 2012-07-19: 11:26
