Making a Path

2008.12.31

These were not taken with my new camera. But rather with a 35mm canon SLR with Ilford HP5+ 400 in it.This was the first time I had ever attempted to develop my own film. I must say overall I did not do so well. I think I was lucky to get anything from the way I was freaking out in my bathroom.

It all started going bad when I realized that the thermometer that I had was broken. So basically I felt the water to make sure it felt like it was 70 degrees. While putting the film on the film holder I got part of the negatives chewed up and stuck. Then once I started the process my canister was leaking all over the floor.

Needless to say, my wife has banished my developing to the basement. ;)

I will post more from this roll over the next few days. I must have done something very strange in development since the pictures have a very old fashioned look to them.

leocheung Making a path, what a great title for the pictures and your interesting experience.

I love the tone of the Ilford film back in the old days:))

Azrin It doesn't look bad at all. For a first timer, I guess you did a good job.
And yes, it looks a bit old skool. Thats great, right?

davids Good results, but very brave of you to do this over the Christmas holiday in the family home... I can just imagine the smell of the chemicals drifting through the house :) I had to give up on this about 20 years ago!

jenjung I don't really know anything about developing film - from what I heard it sounds difficult. I think these look really good and even if the old-time look wasn't what you were going for it looks neat anyway.
