They really do exist - here's an honest to goodness Harbor of Refuge, a port in a storm. Apparently Harbor Beach is home to the world's largest man-made harbor, meant to be a refuge to any ship or boat that needs it.
We took a drive to look at the fall colors, it was a perfect fall day - brisk and sunny with blue skies. It was a bittersweet trip though, it was the trip had planned to take with my Dad. And I was missing my main source for useless (and sometimes useful) information on all things nautical and maritime.
