Secondo la suddivisione astronomica una stagione è l'intervallo di tempo che intercorre tra un equinozio ed un solstizio.
La suddivisione meteorologica, invece, tiene conto dei mutamenti climatici e ambientali che avvengono in un dato luogo nel corso dell'anno, e per questo non coincide quasi mai con la suddivisione astronomica delle stagioni.
