America~~~~~~Vegas!

2008.04.22
After being in the desert, we woke up in this beautiful pine forest, at almost 8,000 ft elevation.

Jacob Lake used to be a magnificent lake where people swam, boated and fished. It was then privately purchased, and in an effort to make it better, the owner dredged up the lake, in turn breaking through the clay base. The lake drained and is now a little larger than a puddle. The Jacob Lake Inn was the only game in town. It was the restaurant, motel, gift shop and gas station. I was a little nervous going to the room, but it turned out to be lovely. I was pleasantly surprised.

Okay, back on the road.....final destination.... Vegas!

Look! One stop shopping! (Where the heck was I??????)

But so pretty to look at.

Entering the Virgin River Gorge - we had no idea what was ahead of us.

Driving at a 7-8% downhill grade, we were overcome by these enormous mountains of rock!

It was magnificent!

Our final state of this trip.

Pretty cool cactus growing everywhere.

We've arrived!

After we checked into our hotel, we went to The Venetian. I guess we needed a little bit of Italy.

Yes, man-made as opposed to all of my previous posts where mother-nature was definitely the star. But, what a magnificent hotel.

Gondola ride anyone?

Venetian murano glass.

They say this guy is one of the oldest character statues in the place. Everyone was posing with him.

Future photoblogger? She could barely hold up that camera! Her dad was very nervous.

This is where The Venetian connected with The Palazzo. Another beauty.

Lots of wishes.

I was just glad not to be in the car anymore.

The lobby of The Palazzo.

The Palazzo, The Venetian and The Venezia (see below) combined, make it the largest hotel in the world. Crazy!

The facade of Harrah's

The Stratosphere. Beautiful views from on top. Didn't go up this trip.

The sun was beginning to set over beautiful Las Vegas.

We left Jacob Lake and got back on the road for Las Vegas, Nevada. The landscape to Nevada was equally as stunning as it had been. There were surprises around each turn in the road. Once in Las Vegas, it was a totally different atmosphere. An oasis in the middle of the desert. While it isn't a natural wonder, it is a wonder. A different kind of electricity in the air.
