We seem to get quite a few wildlife visitors in the backyard. Today it was a roadrunner. He scared off all our regular hummingbirds, finches, doves, and quails, scarfed down a beautiful butterfly, quenched his thirst in the birdbath, and left.

Another zoomed in. Exotic looking bird. HUGE compared to the regulars.

The butterfly who lived! We saw the roadrunner drop something, but assumed it was only a wing. I just went out there and saw the butterfly lying on the ground where it must have been dropped. I used a piece of desert grass to help it onto a plant. It seems ok, but stunned.

I can never get a good shot of the quails because they spend all day squeaking and running around chasing each other or digging holes in the yard. They are funny birds. Here's a close up of one of the birds in a hole he dug up to his head! Eventually, the other bird got in there too, then a third!
