more rain

2007.11.30
During the cross country trip, my dad and I stopped to prospect for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. A review I read online summed up the experience best: (paraphrasing) if you enjoy searching for lephrechauns and unicorns in conditions resembling hell, then you will enjoy this. The first day we prospected it was 6 hours of hard digging in a 95+ degree dust bowl (in October). I thought I might die of heat stroke somewhere in the dirt and never be seen again. We found nothing but rocks and then around 4pm a sudden deluge hit the mines and turbulent rivers formed out of nowhere. It downpoured as hard as I have ever seen for at least an hour straight. There was no sign of it letting up so we had to walk through the torrential rains and flooding to return our equipment before the park closed. Small, hysterical children were being washed down the plowed paths and adults were getting stuck up to the thighs in the mud. It was utter misery! Somehow, though, it was still so much fun that we not only returned to dig through the mud after the rain stopped and the park officially closed (you could still dig until sunset), but we also stayed another night in the town and came back the next day!

Anyway, the above story was just background because the rain we've had for the past few days has been worse!

We're on the road transporting furniture in the truck and the rain is ruining it!

Almost home.

Water pouring out of the gutters.

Filling and draining.

This is where those things above drain into. It's full!

Outside for a few minutes when it seems to let up a little. It doesn't look good!

This is the wash. It's empty still.

Out at night, it's been raining for hours and hours. We found that many of our doors and windows leak. Also the ceiling in Rich's office.

Look at the turbulence!

Yes, it's raining a lot.

Close-up of a million rain drops hitting the puddle.

Flowing out of the yard.

The wash has become a river!

It's full of water.
