Nth Letter VIII

2008.05.29
I repeat, “Teachers exist in a unique middle ground of intense hope and intense darkness.” Our currently-dark system (Is it the culture? or the society? or the family structure? or the government?) is struggling. Our schools stand as a diorama of all the failing structures surrounding these students. Schools are the center of a dark Venn Diagram graphic organizer, where the culture, education, society, family structure, and government overlap, sharing the phrase “less than perfect.” Such shortcomings are made visible through our students. How can we ask our students to stand for more as they represent the reality of our American culture? How can our education, society, family structure, and government begin to infuse these “hopeful wads of clay” with the expectation, standard, and the vision of potential that they are due? How do we fight the darkness that exists as our current reality? How do we purify the one place where American society is truly represented? These questions comes to mind as a student stares me in the face and, through his understanding of vindication, spells out the word asshole for me: A-S-S-H-O-L-E.

PS- I REALIZE M PHOTOBLOG HAS TURNED JOURNAL ON YOU. MY GOAL IS TO GO BACK TO THE OLE CAMERA. BEAR WITH!
