Vegas, baby! Day 2

2008.03.05
Harrah's Casino and Hotel's lobby boasted this fabulous "sums it all up" theme statue. No offense to anyone. We didn't linger here...but it was fun while it lasted!

New York, New York. Inside this casino is the bar, Coyote Ugly. A hot spot for the 20-30 year old set, this hotel had loads of fun stuff to do, eat, and see. We didn't ride the coaster (I could have handled this one easily) but those who did seemed to have a happy expression on their faces.

A classic amongst the "newer" hotels. We saw David Copperfield perform here and left us asking, "How'd he do that??" when he made 13 people mysteriously disappear from the stage and reappear at the back of the theater seconds later. Fun stuff. Inside the lobby, they keep a pair of lions (yep, live ones) in a plexi-glass viewing area. It made me sad...I'm not about wild animal captivity. They looked listless and depressed.

Visitors are able to venture to the top of the Eiffel Tower, 1/2 the size of the original. Visually stunning inside, this was on our list of favorites. We went to the top of the Tower and enjoyed beautiful vistas of a rapidly expanding city.

Excalibur. Truly fun for kids, a bit on the hokey side for adults, but if you're a fan of the era in which knights and damsels in distress reigned, you'll get a kick out of it. Check the national news for some recent info. about the place.

There's a few of these old places alive and well along the strip, each one featuring a wedding chapel and a sign saying, "NO locals!" Hmmm...what could that mean?? Hee hee...

Cesar's Palace. This place rocked it! Bette Midler is performing there, the shopping is world-class (Gucci, Burberry, Tiffany, etc), and the casino wasn't too smokey. The lobby and common areas were just gorgeous, but seemed sort of dark. It's HUGE!

The town is so much different than it was back in '75 when I was last there--there's a theme with every hotel-a theme beyond "gaming," flashy clothes, and great shows.

oldbabe Is that first shot "Ken and Barbie Grow Up and Do Vegas"? I am jealous you saw a magic show up close and personal. I love magic- reminds me of my brother who does quite a bit of magic tricks in front of me that I still can't figure out after all these years!
