Long Lost Rolls of Film

2008.05.18
About 3 years ago, Liza and I headed to Clearwater Beach for a much-needed beach break over Memorial Day weekend. She was still in college--but was clearly 21 :0)

In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, snow is not measured in inches. It is measured in feet. This measuring tool noted the previous year's totals as well as some "landmark" snowfalls from years past.

Bear the Wonder Dog joined us on a sailing adventure on Grand Traverse Bay. This was NOT the year the gas gauge was broken and we ran out of gas...paddling in the bay, shooting off both flairs (horizontally--so NO ONE could see them from a distance), running out of drinking water, and a hot sunny day. It was a scene straight out of Gilligan's Island. This was the next year...newer boat, more drinking water on board and a dog--just in case we needed provisions. He could swim to shore ala Lassie and bark to a stranger, telling them of our peril on the great white-capped sea.

My friend Elizabeth came from California to visit me right after my divorce. She said we needed to take a trip to shake off the "blues" we were both experiencing, and so we booked a trip to Acapulco and within a very brief period of time, we were basking on the beautiful white sandy beaches, enjoying delicious tropical drinks, and time away from the craziness of Los Angeles and Detroit. This was about 4 years ago.

5 years ago, Liza was invited to start her Freshman year of college early. So, off we trotted to Michigan Tech. University in "da great white nort" of the Upper Peninsula. Her brother...well, if you have siblings, you get it.

5 years ago, Liza graduated from high school. Her brother graduated 1 year later. My goodness time flies. Again with the sibling affection.

This is Phyllis, otherwise known as "Phil." She's a combination of Annie Oakley, Miss Kitty (from Gunsmoke--or was it Bonanza?) and Rosanne Rosannadanna. Phil sat behind us in church quite frequently, and made church a heck of a lot more fun. Phil is still one of Liza's dearest friends.

During one of my recent campaigns to reclaim my kitchen counter, I discovered a bowl filled with long-forgotten rolls of film (I've had a digital camera for about 3 years). Today I picked up the prints...fun to look back and see what my "time capsule" had in store for me. Good times...
